I made excuses during the Olympics that they were off their game because they couldn’t feed off of the crowd energy. I was giving Vlatko the benefit of the doubt because everyone loses sometimes, it’s part of the game, it happens. It doesn’t happen to this team though, not at the World Cup.

Does Vlatko hate everyone on the team except for Horan? Did Kelley kick his puppy or something?

Two things about this:

1. He literally punished both Christen and Alex for taking mental health breaks.

2. Shouldn't caring and respecting the players on your team be the bare minimum? When do we stop praising people for the bare minimum?

I know Jill Ellis sucked ass but that team was ruthless, they were sharp, focused, had ice in their veins and every team respected them.

Vlatko was able to destroy all that so quickly. Megan Rapinoe, Kelley and Alex Morgan are missing decisive penalties now? This team's confidence is at a zero.

I'll definitely have more complex thoughts about the wwc and the uswnt's run at some point, but right now I'm mostly stuck on the fact that vlatko did this team so dirty. And I'm absolutely heartbroken for Kristie Mewis, and Sofia Huerta in particular - who were frozen out of the NT for years, who put so much work in to finally make it to a world cup, who might not get another chance, and who barely fucking played after all that. The uswnt just has an incredible amount of talent no matter how you look at it, and the fact that the vast majority of that talent wasn't utilized at all (not to mention the increased risk of injury to the players who were constantly played!!) pisses me off to no end.
